FAQ
Can this really power my home?
Yes - a single Apollo generator can easily power your household refrigerator, lights, computer, and TV. It can power a window air-conditioner, but the battery will
drain after a couple hours of use. If the sun is shining, it can stay fully charged.
How does this all work?
Using the Apollo is extremely simple. You take it out of the box and can immediately begin powering appliances/devices from the power outlets on the front of the unit. Just turn it on and start. Think of it like a “power source in a box” – a mobile power outlet. It can go anywhere you need it. To keep the Apollo charged, you can simply plug it into a wall outlet or your solar array. Energy goes in—it’s stored—then it’s used. Think about a water reservoir—water flows into a basin, and comes out through a tap. In electrical terms—the electricity comes in via solar panels (or grid power), is stored in the battery, and then comes out through the power outlets on the Apollo. This is all managed automatically by our unit—you don’t need to think about it! You just take it out of the box and start using it.
A solar array is extremely simple to setup: buy panels (portable or mountable); set up the portable panels outside and connect the cables together—the cables and connectors are already on the solar panel and don’t require any tools. Many people choose to build their own solar panel frame, or mount it on a roof. Each household panel is 40 pounds and requires zero expertise to use—literally “plug and play.” Contact us and we’ll walk you through the process or even connect you with an installer.
How easy is it to use?
Incredibly easy. Customers of all shapes and sizes use our units—most of them with no experience with these kinds of products. The Apollo is truly a “plug-and-play” unit—it works out of the box to power and backup devices. You simply purchase it, set up your panels, and have a power source that will provide energy for the next 2-years! For whole-home backup, i.e. tying directly into your household circuits, you will need an installer.
I have no technical experience - can I use the Apollo?
Absolutely. Most of our customers have no technical experience.
How easy is it to setup?
It works out of the box—it’s “plug and play.” You can easily power appliances from the get go. Solar panels can either be portable panels or household-sized panels that need to be mounted. Many customers mount the panels themselves, and others use an installer.
How long does it last?
Our generators (like the Apollo) are rated to last 20-years and warrantied for 5-years. Our solar panels (like our 410W household panel) are warrantied for 20-years.
What can the Apollo power?
A single Apollo provides up to 25A of continuous power at 120V. That means it can easily power almost everything in your home or RV. Most modern lights operate at very low power (about 0.5A), which means you could power 50 lights at once. Microwaves on the other hand, operate at a higher power (about 8A), which means you could power three microwaves at once.
If you need to power a 240V appliance (like an electric dryer or a well pump), simply connect two Apollos together - now you have 25A of power at 240V!
You can also link 3 Apollos together to produce 25A of 208V 3-phase power to operate commercial equipment.
Whether you're operating in 120V, 240V, or 208V modes, you can link up to 12 Apollo units together to provide a whopping 300A or 150A continuous power, depending on your configuration!

How reliable is the Apollo?
Extremely reliable. Our products have been providing thousands of customers with power for years.
Does Hysolis really guarantee its products?
Absolutely. We always answer the phone—our team fully stands behind these products. The team in San Diego, CA takes final responsibility for every sale. We are born-and-raised Americans who take responsibility for what we sell to every customer.
Can I charge the Apollo and power something at the same time?
Yes. No complications. It provides power and gets charged simultaneously, with zero complications. A Dual-CPU Intelligent Control Board manages all energy input and output.
Why would I not use a gas generator? They're less expensive after all.
There are many reasons to use a solar generator over a gas generator. Here are a few:
- Gas generators produce unpleasant, toxic fumes, and cannot be used indoors. The Apollo produces clean power and can be used in your living room. Enjoy clean power.
- Gas generators are noisy. Any time a gas generator is running, it's extremely loud and distracting. Most gas generators are as loud as a semi truck - you wouldn't want to sleep next to a running semi, would you? Solar generators, on the other hand, operate silently. Enjoy quiet power.
- Gas generators have many moving parts and require frequent care and maintenance. Solar generators don't have this problem. Enjoy 20 years of maintenance free power.
Can I use the Apollo outside?
The Apollo is designed to be used indoors but as long as you are mindful of water and dust/debris ingress, you can use it outside.
How fast does the Apollo charge?
You can charge the battery with the sun in just over 1 hour 15 minutes or from a wall outlet in just over 1 hour 45 minutes.
Does the Apollo need to be installed in a home?
Does the Apollo need to be installed in a home?
No! The Apollo is an all-in-one solar generator which means you can take it with you anywhere you need power and be ready to go. It's designed to be extremely portable and provide power when and where you need it most.
Can I charge the Apollo from a gas generator?
Yes, you can charge the Apollo from any inverted gas generator that supplies pure sine wave power.
What is the maximum number of Apollos I can put together to create continuous loud output and still have 240V split phase?
The Apollo can provide 240V split phase power with an even number of units ranging from 2-12 units.
Can I expand my Apollo system later if I decide I need more power?
Of course! We designed the Apollo system to be easily expandable. If you need additional power or battery storage a year from now, simply purchase another unit and plug it into your current system.
Will the Apollo do net metering?
No, the Apollo is an off-grid system, meaning it does not back feed power to the grid. You have more control over your power with the Apollo because you can store the power and use it for FREE when you need it.
What transfer switch do you recommend for the Apollo?
With UPS mode, the transfer switch is built right into the Apollo. All you need to set up the auto transfer system is a separate critical loads panel, which you can purchase from your local hardware store.
Where should I keep the Apollo? Can I keep it in my garage?
As long as the Apollo is stored indoors and the internal components remain above freezing, you can store your Apollo safely. The garage is a great place to store your unit.
What is the operating temperature range of the Apollo?
The Apollo can operate in a wide temperature range from +32 to +104 F (0 to +40 C).
Is the Apollo safe to put in my living room?
Definitely. Feel free to plug any appliances you want to power directly into the front of the unit. If you are using the Apollo in your living room and are using solar power, be sure to ground the system using a house ground or the providing grounding rod.
Can I charge my EV with an Apollo?
Yes, one Apollo can charge your EV with Level 1 charging at 120V/25A. With two Apollos you can charge with Level 2 charging at 240V/25A. With four Apollos you can charge with Level 2 charging at 240V/50A.
Do you make an EU version of the Apollo?
No, we don't currently make an EU version of the Apollo. Subscribe to our newsletter to receive updates about future versions of the Apollo.
Can the Apollo withstand an EMP strike?
No, without a Faraday case, the Apollo will be knocked out with an EMP strike. You can purchase Faraday cases online as long as the dimensions match the Apollo.
How do I connect my solar panel array to the Apollo?
Simply plug the positive and negative MC4 terminals from your solar panels to our included solar breaker. The solar breaker is then connected to the MC4 terminals on the back of the Apollo. That's it!
Do you sell or can you recommend a solar panel racking system?
We don't currently sell a solar panel racking system. Tamarack Solar has great options for solar panel racking.
For the more DIY-inclined, YouTube has great instructional videos about how to build your own racking system with basic materials.
Can I use bifacial panels with the Apollo?
Absolutely! As long as you follow the Apollo PV input parameters, you can use any solar panels with our system.
Will I damage the Apollo if I leave it charging for a prolonged period of time?
No! The Apollo has built in safety features that keep the battery from overcharging, even if you leave it plugged in for long periods of time.
What do I need to go "off-grid"?
To begin your journey towards energy independence, you'll need a few basic components.
First, you'll need a way to capture energy. You can capture energy from the sun using solar panels or from the wind using personal wind turbines. You can also borrow energy from other sources like a wall outlet or a gas generator.
You'll also need a way to store the energy you capture or borrow in the form of a battery. There are many different battery chemistries each with its own set of pros and cons. We prefer using LiFePO4 batteries.
Next, you'll need a component, called a charge controller (e.g. solar charge controller), to manage the flow of energy from your energy source to your battery. A charge controller is like adaptive cruise control - you set your desired speed and the system adapts your speed to match traffic ahead of you so you're always going at the speed of traffic. A charge controller finds the appropriate charge rate (speed) based on inputs from the energy source (desired speed) and battery voltage and charge state (traffic ahead).
Finally, unless your devices are powered by Direct Current (DC), you'll need a component, called an inverter, to convert DC into Alternating Current (AC).
Put it all together in a box and you have an all-in-one mobile power station. Or, you can purchase each component individually to set up your own modular kit.
